This self-paced training is designed for interns and newer therapists seeking a deeper understanding of complex trauma, how to identify their presentations, understand what drives them, and respond safely within your scope of practice. Through a comprehensive video presentation, and downloadable slides, you’ll explore the different kinds of complex trauma, how to spot them, and how to address them the therapy room.
You’ll be introduced to what complex trauma looks like in session, describing the implications of the key findings of the Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) for clinical practice, identifying common presentations and misattributions of complex trauma, describing the phase-based treatment and more.
Participants who successfully complete the course with a passing score of 80% or higher will be able to:
Definition and types of trauma: complex, developmental, and attachment trauma
Impact of prolonged and repetitive trauma on emotional and psychological development
Neurobiological consequences of trauma and its effects on brain function
Importance of early attachment relationships and their role in trauma
Foundations of trauma-informed care and compassionate intervention
Understanding trauma as a multifaceted experience requiring holistic approaches

Meet Your Instructor
Jenn Bovee is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, EMDRIA-Certified EMDR Therapist, and EMDR Consultant specializing in complex trauma, dissociation, and chronic illness. She is the owner and Clinical Director of The Mental Wellness Center in Central Illinois and the founder of My Mental Wellness Company, where she provides consultation, continuing education, and business coaching for clinicians and group practice owners.
With over 20 years of experience in mental health, Jenn integrates EMDR, AEDP, and somatic approaches to help clients achieve deep, lasting healing. She is Level II trained in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and holds advanced certifications as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP-II) and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CRADC).
Jenn is also an author and national trainer known for her engaging, experiential teaching style. Her trainings focus on advanced EMDR techniques, shame-informed therapy, neurodiversity-affirming practice, and trauma-informed leadership.
